Event promotion can save the day (and the budget) if done correctly. The Freedom of Information Coalition (NFOIC) is a nonprofit based at the University of Missouri and charged with helping found educational coalitions in each state to inform citizens about sunshine laws. By providing small grants to its state partners, the NFOIC extends its presence and advocacy. Kyle Communications used the grant to build a strategically branded web presence to boost conference attendance and revenue for event promotion. The end product was a sharpened consumer brand chock full of tips and information—for everyone from First Amendment lawyers to community and neighborhood groups seeking public records and public access.
Results: State memberships increased by 20 percent and attendance to the Indianapolis-based event also tripled—as did conference revenue for both organizations.
