National Freedom of Information Coalition
Kyle Communications promoted the often overlooked agenda for government transparency for national and state groups. The Freedom of Information Coalition (NFOIC) is a nonprofit based at the University of Missouri and is charged with helping found educational coalitions in each state to inform citizens about sunshine laws. Sunshine laws focus on access to government by allowing citizens the right to inspect and copy public records or attend public meetings. The statewide group dedicated to the same cause, the Indiana Coalition for Open Government, proposed a joint conference in Indiana with a small grant of $5,000. Used to build strategically branded web presence to increase attendance and boost conference attendance and revenue, the solution was a consumer brand chock full of tips and information—for everyone from First Amendment lawyers to community groups.
Results: State memberships increased by 20 percent and attendance to the Indianapolis-based event also tripled—as did conference revenue for both organizations.
